CHICAGO [October 18, 2023] – International law firm McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce it has been ranked first among large law firms on Meta’s Patent Diversity Scorecard for 2022.
The Outside Counsel Diversity Survey ranks participating US-based law firms across several indicators, including the composition of teams handling Meta-related matters, the diversity of relationship partners, the level of leadership and valuable opportunities given to diverse attorneys involved in Meta-related work and the diversity representation within a law firm’s incoming partner class.
Jeremiah Chan, Director and Associate General Counsel at Meta, remarked, “By incorporating diversity as an important factor in our selection of outside counsel, we not only reinforce Meta’s prioritization of cognitive diversity within our own teams and partners; but we also contribute positively to the legal profession as a whole. McDermott has demonstrated its steadfast commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in many ways, including their staffing choices for our matters, ongoing initiatives within their firm, and their collaborative efforts with clients. We are honored to partner with them in this meaningful work.”
Meta’s in-house patent team entrusts McDermott’s patent relationship partner and Head of Patent Prosecution Ahsan Shaikh as embedded patent counsel, not only to employ a data-driven patent strategy to prepare, file and obtain patents, but also to implement actions that measurably increase its engagement of underrepresented inventors. This unwavering commitment to combating the gender, racial and ethnic disparity in patent application filings and issuances has paved the way for increased engagement and creativity.
