McDermott advises VALUES Real Estate on the purchase of the “Industriepalast” in Leipzig

McDermott Will & Emery advised VALUES Real Estate on the purchase of the approx. 25,400 sqm “Industriepalast” in Leipzig from the fund EPISO 5 managed by Tristan Capital Partners and the KAURI CAB Group.
The “Industriepalast”, acquired by VALUES Real Estate for an institutional investor, is located in the historic Graphisches Viertel in the direct vicinity of Leipzig’s main railway station. The main tenant is Deutsche Bahn, which rents 70% of the space. The Industriepalast was built in 1913 and has been the headquarters for well-known companies since the beginning.

This Election Day, SRZ once again partnered with The Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law to host an Election Protection hotline. More than 20 SRZ associates, special counsel and partners volunteered to assist voters with problems and guide callers throughout the voting process, regardless of party affiliation. Our volunteers fielded calls from Connecticut, Washington, D.C., Delaware, New York, Rhode Island and Tennessee.
The Lawyers Committee — made up of more than 300 national, state and local partners — works year-round through its national, non-partisan Election Protection coalition to ensure all voters have an equal opportunity to vote and have that vote count. Litigation partner Michael Swartz is on the Board of Directors, serving on the Executive Committee.

Capital, a leading global alternative investment firm with $52 billion of equity capital under management, in the sale of its portfolio company and leading specialty food distributor, importer and manufacturer, Lipari Foods, to an affiliate of Littlejohn & Co., LLC. The transaction was announced on October 31, 2022.
McDermott represented H.I.G. in its initial acquisition of Lipari Foods in January 2019 in partnership with the Lipari family and its senior management team. Through numerous strategic initiatives, investments, and synergistic add-on acquisitions, Lipari Foods achieved significant growth during H.I.G.’s ownership period, generating a strong return for its investors.

International law firm McDermott Will & Emery represented Summit Health-CityMD, a leading provider of primary, specialty and urgent care, in its sale to VillageMD, a leading, national provider of value-based primary care services. The transaction is valued at approximately $8.9 billion with investments from Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. and Evernorth, a subsidiary of Cigna Corporation.
The combined company will become one of the largest independent provider groups in the US and will create a multi-payor platform that will deliver quality, affordable care for all patients.

McDermott Adds Intellectual Property Litigator in Dallas

International law firm McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce the addition of David Tobin as a partner in the Firm’s Intellectual Property (IP) Practice Group based in Dallas. David joins from Baker Botts where his practice focuses on high-stakes patent litigation in district courts and proceedings before the Patent Trial & Appeal Board (PTAB).
“Building on the successful integration of the fantastic IP team in our new Austin office, we are focused on expanding our capabilities to best support our client’s needs and continue our IP practice’s growth trajectory,” Global Head of McDermott’s Intellectual Property practice William Gaede said. “David is a versatile litigator who can immediately step in to support ongoing matters, and his practice also helps further enhance our PTAB bench strength.”
David focuses his practice on IP, with a particular emphasis on patent post-grant trials and patent litigation. He has extensive experience litigating complex patent infringement and other IP cases across the country, including in district courts, the PTAB and the International Trade Commission. David represents clients in a wide variety of fields spanning telecommunications hardware and standards, computer hardware and software, e-commerce, data compression, semiconductor manufacturing and design, fossil energy production, renewable energy generation, medical devices, chemical processes and pharmaceutical formulations, among other areas. He also litigates and provides counseling on trade secrets, copyright, trademark and trade dress issues.
“McDermott’s global IP platform and the Firm’s focus on supporting clients throughout the full IP life cycle will help me strengthen current client relationships and more easily build new ones,” David noted. “I’m excited to rejoin my former colleagues and get straight to work.”
David received his BS in Chemical Engineering and MS in Materials Science & Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles and his JD from the University of Texas School of Law.
