McDermott expands investment funds practice with counsel in Frankfurt

Frankfurt a.M., October 1, 2024 – McDermott Will & Emery is strengthening its German investment funds practice with the addition of lawyer Ilka Breuer. She will join McDermott’s Frankfurt office as Counsel on October 1, 2024.
Ilka Breuer has more than 20 years of experience in the areas of investment funds and asset management. She regularly advises investment companies and asset managers as well as institutional investors from Germany and abroad and also represents them vis-à-vis national and European supervisory authorities.
Ilka Breuer joins McDermott from Ashurst. From 2012 to 2020, she worked for the German Investment and Asset Management Association (BVI) in the legal department. She began her career as a lawyer at Clifford Chance.

McDermott Will & Emery has advised idiCo, a management company specializing in supporting French SMEs and ETIs, on the first closing at EUR 80 million of its 4th Small Cap fund, idiCo Expansion 4, launched in early 2024. The aim is to reach EUR 200 million.
This fund has already made an initial investment, in the form of a primary LBO, finalized in July 2024 in Loré, a Bordeaux-based company specializing in innovative SaaS software designed to manage the tax and investment affairs of real estate players.
The McDermott team comprised:
- Guillaume Panuel, partner, and Agathe Marcelin, associate, on legal and regulatory aspects;
- Antoine Vergnat, partner, and Oriane Beauvois, associate, on tax aspects.

International law firm McDermott Will & Emery welcomes Candice Nichol as a partner in its market-leading tax practice. Candice is the ninth London-based partner to join this year, and her arrival further strengthens the Firm’s standing in the London market.

“Candice is one of the new breed of proactive and entrepreneurial tax lawyers. She’ll be instrumental in supporting the growth of our UK and European tax advisory mandates,” said Kevin Cummings.
A seasoned, multidisciplinary tax professional, Candice joins from a Big Four firm. She works with private equity funds and investors on the structuring of all types of international transactions across all asset classes. She also advises clients in the asset management, and financial institutions industries, with a particular focus on cross-border deals and fund and balance sheet structuring. Candice also has experience with contentious tax matters.

After more than 100 years of silence from the federal government, the US Department of Justice (“DOJ”) will launch an official review of the Tulsa Race Massacre and make an accounting of those fateful two days in 1921.
This is an encouraging step in the country’s effort to live up to its promise of justice for all of its citizens. “We will continue to work closely with our co-counsel and @Justice for Greenwood to support this historic development to finally bring justice and accountability to our clients, the last two survivors, Mother Fletcher and Mother Randle,” stated Schulte Roth & Zabel Special Counsel for Pro Bono Initiatives Sara Solfanelli. “We intend to remain fully engaged with our clients and will cooperate with the DOJ as they conduct this formal review,” added associate McKenzie Haynes.
