DÜSSELDORF, July 1, 2025 – McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce Natallia Karniyevich has joined its Regulatory Practice Group as a partner based in Düsseldorf. Natallia joins from Bird & Bird, where she co-led the International Cybersecurity Steering Group and provided expert advice on intricate cybersecurity and data protection issues.

“Natallia has been a close collaborator with our team for the past year, and we have witnessed the exceptional quality of her work directly,” commented Alva Mather, global head of McDermott’s Regulatory Practice Group. “She is one of the most trusted cybersecurity lawyers in the EU, and we are thrilled to officially welcome her to the Firm.”

Natallia specializes in cybersecurity compliance, incident response, and contractual risk management. Her experience spans a variety of sectors, including life sciences, healthcare, telecommunications, digital infrastructure, and financial services. Her arrival significantly enhances McDermott’s European cybersecurity capabilities, particularly as clients navigate the evolving regulatory landscape, such as the NIS2 Directive, the Directive on the Resilience of Critical Entities, and the Cyber Resilience Act.

“Natallia’s addition aligns with our strategy to expand our integrated regulatory and IT services across Europe,” added Matthias Kampshoff, Managing Partner of McDermott in Germany. “Her business-oriented approach and sector-specific expertise will be a significant asset to our clients, especially for cybersecurity and data protection.”

Natallia is a recognized thought leader in cybersecurity regulation, frequently publishing and speaking on the subject. She also regularly gives a talk as a guest speaker at the Berlin School of Economics and Law.

“I’m excited to join McDermott’s distinguished regulatory team and contribute to the Firm’s growing cybersecurity capabilities,” said Natallia. “Having worked closely with the team over the past year, I have experienced firsthand the Firm’s robust culture and client-centric mindset. I look forward to assisting clients in navigating the increasingly complex cybersecurity environment.”

McDermott delivers regulatory and compliance acumen in a number of key areas, in particular antitrust and competition, merger and foreign investment control, EU state aid, government contracts, government and lobbying strategies, international trade, and privacy and cybersecurity. More than 100 lawyers strong, with team members based in the US and Europe, our practice is recognized globally in Chambers, Legal 500, Best Law Firms, and JUVE, and it holds a place both among Global Competition Review’s GCR 100 Global Elite as well as Global Data Review’s GDR 100 Global Elite.
