SRZ Speaker Series Guest and Daily Beast Columnist Wajahat Ali Captivates With Insights From His Personal Journey

    May 2023

    Read time: 3 min

As part of the SRZ Speaker Series and in honor of AAPI Heritage Month, the firm hosted The Daily Beast columnist Wajahat Ali who recounted with biting wit and wisdom how, as a Pakistani American, he has experienced life in America.

Insightful gems that Wajahat shared included:

    • Representation and having the space to flex who you are matters!
    • Replacement theory has it all wrong. People of color don’t want to replace anyone, they just want to be invited to the party!
    • Make an impact wherever and in any way you can. Small, local footprints ripple across generations.
    • “Manels” – panels consisting of all men. Push to change that.
    • Choose to be aware, to be intentional, to act!
    • Everyone has a superpower. Find yours.

From the reaction of our attendees, Wajahat’s superpower is indeed his storytelling, which entertained, educated and insightfully touched on many narratives lived by anyone who has felt marginalized in America.

    PRESS RELEASE

McDermott Comment | Great Annual Savings Restructuring Plan Dismissed By The High Court Amid HMRC Opposition

    May 17, 2023

    Read time: 3 min

Mark Fine, a partner at law firm McDermott Will & Emery, said:

“The decision by the High Court refusing to sanction Great Annual Savings restructuring plan highlights how HMRC has decided to take a more active role in sanction hearings. Their fateful decision to passively oppose the Houst restructuring plan resulted in their cram down as a class. It is clear they have learned from that given the far more active role they have taken here in court to resist the plan. The court determined the company did not show that HMRC would be no worse off under the plan than in the relevant alternative. It’s clear that HMRC will be a more active participant and companies will need to give careful consideration to this when implementing restructuring plans.”
