NEW YORK (May 21, 2015) — In a feat unmatched in the legal industry, McDermott Will & Emery has been ranked for the sixth straight year as the nation’s only top-tier law firm in healthcare by Chambers USA, one of the most prestigious directory services for law firms.
In bestowing the honor, Chambers wrote that McDermott’s Health Industry Advisory Practice Group “continues to excel on the gamut of healthcare matters, including data protection, private equity and sub-acute care.” The Firm’s healthcare group was praised for its “impressive national footprint, enabling its representation of a wide-ranging client base.” Further, Chambers noted that McDermott’s “market-leading transactional expertise is complemented by notable regulatory and litigation strength.”
With this latest accolade, McDermott remains in the vanguard of the health law marketplace, where it has also received top honors from other elite legal directories, The Legal 500 USA and U.S. News—Best Lawyers, over the past five years. McDermott was also the past recipient of Chambers’ “Health Team of the Year” awards in 2010 and 2013, the only healthcare practice group to be so honored twice.
Clients interviewed by Chambers USA lauded McDermott’s Health practice, noting that, “It has the longest reputation in history as being the pinnacle healthcare firm.” Another client observed that, “McDermott has had an integrated model since time immemorial.”
“We’re delighted once again to be the recipient of this highly prized honor,” said Stephen W. Bernstein, partner and Global Head of McDermott’s Health Industry Advisory Practice. “This award is especially meaningful to us because it stems directly from client feedback. As such, it is a tribute to the skills, hard work and dedication of the attorneys in our Health practice: truly the best of the best in the industry. We thank our clients and peers for this tremendous recognition.”
In addition to its Band 1 status in the national healthcare category, McDermott received Band 1 rankings in the healthcare category at the state level for its practices in California, the District of Columbia, Florida, Illinois and Massachusetts.
Chambers USA identified several McDermott partners as “notable practitioners” at the national level. Firm partners in this group include Joel Michaels, Ira Coleman, Gary Scott Davis, Bernadette Broccolo, Michael Peregrine, Michael Anthony, Christopher Jedrey, Eric Gordon, and Practice Group Leader, Stephen Bernstein. At the state level, Chambers named 26 Firm partners among its top health law practitioners. McDermott leads all other nationally ranked law firm health practices in the number of ranked lawyers.
With an over 30-year history of serving the health care industry, McDermott Will & Emery has one of the most prestigious health law practice groups in the world. The Firm’s international health team, resident in its Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, Munich, New York, Rome, Silicon Valley and Washington, D.C. offices, counsels leading organizations in every major sector of the health and life sciences industry on regulatory and business transaction issues. McDermott is the only law firm to receive Tier 1 rankings in health care nationally by all of the industry’s top legal directories: Chambers USA, The Legal 500 USA, U.S. News–Best Lawyers and Law360. For the fifth consecutive year (2010-2014), McDermott’s Health Industry Advisory practice achieved a standalone, Tier 1 national ranking in Chambers USA’s healthcare category.

CHICAGO (March 27, 2015) — International law firm McDermott Will & Emery advised Sensata Technologies B.V. in three financing transactions announced last week. Sensata is an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Sensata Technologies Holding N.V.
A cross-practice McDermott team advised the issuer on its private offering of $700 million in aggregate principal amount of 5.00 percent senior notes due 2025, cash tender offer for all of its outstanding 6.50 percent senior notes due 2019, and an amendment to the issuer’s senior secured credit facilities that increased the senior secured revolving credit facility commitment by an additional $100 million to $350 million in the aggregate. The amendment also extended the maturity of the senior secured revolving credit facility to five years after the closing of the amendment.
The new senior notes were issued at par and guaranteed on a senior unsecured basis by substantially all of the issuer’s existing and future wholly-owned subsidiaries that guarantee the issuer’s senior secured credit facilities.
Net proceeds from the Notes offering were combined with cash on hand to purchase all of the Issuer’s 6.50 percent senior notes due 2019 that were validly tendered (and not validly withdrawn) in the cash tender offer that Sensata commenced simultaneously.
“We are honored to have advised Sensata in these important financing transactions,” said Stephanie McCann, partner in McDermott’s Corporate Advisory Group and lead lawyer on the deal. “By combining our outstanding knowledge of the financial markets with our cross-practice finance and securities capabilities, we were able to guide Sensata through these transactions just as we advise other clients seeking to negotiate and close such sophisticated financing deals.”
In addition to McCann, members of the McDermott deal team included Corporate partner Heidi Steele, counsel Richard Mitchell and associates William Hadler, Daniel Goldstein and Alexander Tanton. Tax partner Daniel Zucker and Employee Benefits partner Maureen O’Brien also provided valuable assistance on this transaction.
Sensata Technologies Holding N.V. is one of the world’s leading suppliers of sensing, electrical protection, control and power management solutions with operations and business centers in thirteen countries. Sensata’s products improve safety, efficiency and comfort for millions of people every day in automotive, appliance, aircraft, industrial, military, heavy vehicle, heating, air-conditioning and ventilation, data, telecommunications, recreational vehicle and marine applications.

SRZ represented London-based interdealer broker Tullett Prebon plc in its settlement, for $100 million, of a suit against rival BGC Partners Inc. Tullett Prebon sued BGC in New Jersey in 2009, alleging claims for racketeering, unfair competition, misappropriation of confidential information and trade secrets and tortious interference based on BGC’s raid on Tullett Prebon’s New Jersey-based business. In that raid, BGC paid approximately $20 million to Tullett desk heads to lift out nine different desks of Tullett brokers. The settlement, which requires BGC to pay Tullett $100 million on top of the $33 million already paid by BGC subsidiaries to Tullett subsidiaries that SRZ won for Tullett in a related FINRA arbitration, also resulted in the dismissal of all claims between Tullett and BGC worldwide as well as a one-year prohibition on either party hiring desk heads and senior management from the other.
Tullett Prebon and BGC have faced each other in related litigation around the globe and in all types of courts for years. In 2013, SRZ secured a victory on behalf of Tullett Prebon in the arbitration of a “data theft” suit brought by BGC in New York, and in July 2014, SRZ helped Tullett Prebon’s subsidiaries win $33.3 million in a FINRA arbitration with BGC. The settlement of the New Jersey case concludes all other outstanding litigation across the globe — 10 lawsuits in all — between the parties.
The SRZ team was led by litigation partners Robert M. Abrahams and Harry S. Davis, and included litigation partners Taleah E. Jennings and David K. Momborquette.
