In a recent Modern Healthcare article, Monica Wallace discusses a proposed CMS rule that would give the agency broader authority to remove providers and suppliers suspected of fraud from Medicare — and why the policy’s reach may extend well beyond bad actors.
Monica noted that the proposal could sweep in providers with no connection to any underlying fraud, such as those who share office space with a provider whose Medicare privileges were revoked, or who employ staff previously affiliated with a revoked provider.
Providers, suppliers, and their investors should understand these proposed changes and how information disclosed on enrollment records (or failed to be properly disclosed on enrollment records) could create potential adverse enrollment actions.
