Overview
International law firm McDermott Will & Schulte represented ALPS Corporation and its subsidiary, ALPS Property & Casualty Insurance Company (“ALPS”) in connection with its acquisition of Ohio Bar Liability Insurance Company (OBLIC), a leading provider of professional liability insurance for attorneys in Ohio. The acquisition was announced in a press release on May 7.
This strategic transaction reflects a shared commitment to strengthening the long-term delivery of legal malpractice insurance to Ohio lawyers by aligning OBLIC’s strong reputation and history of lawyer-focused service with ALPS’ national scale, infrastructure, and specialized expertise serving lawyers. OBLIC was founded by the Ohio Bar in 1978 to serve the professional liability needs of Ohio attorneys at a time when few insurers provided legal malpractice insurance.
The McDermott team was led by Michael Halsband along with Christopher Stacker and Katie Yonover, with invaluable support from Michael Byrne, Amber Adair, Audrey Bischoff, Elliana Lenz, Drew Montemarano, Sarah Mezini, Erin Turley, Lelia Fujiwara, Andrea Best, Amy Pimentel, Elias Eliopoulos, Sarah Bro, Caitlin Drott, John Lutz, Andrew Granek, Richard Call, Jonathan Hague, Julia Kang, Theodore Keyes, Ellen Snare, Brian Mead, Raja Chatterjee, Andrew Butel, Jacob Hollinger, and Thomas Dawson.
