From medical directorships to call coverage, hospital-physician arrangements can create serious Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, and False Claims Act exposure, and the line between a defensible arrangement and an enforcement problem is often thinner than expected.

McDermott partner Tony Maida will join Robert Wade, partner at Wade Health Law, PLLC, at the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA) 2026 Healthcare Enforcement Compliance Conference. Their session, “Hospital/Physician Financial Relationships: What Gets You in Trouble and How to Stay Out of It,” will identify the arrangements most likely to draw scrutiny, explain why fair market value alone is not enough, and show how commercial reasonableness, referral volume or value, compensation methodology, documentation, and actual conduct affect defensibility.
