    Partner Melissa Price spoke at a American Law Institute Continuing Legal Education (ALI CLE) webinar “Irrevocable But Not Irredeemable: How To Fix or Modify a Trust,” hosted on ‎Wednesday, ‎July ‎25, 2018.

    Your client undoubtedly had excellent reasons for creating an irrevocable trust. They may have created an irrevocable trust to protect their assets from the hands of creditors, to provide funding for their children without giving them direct access to those funds, or for transfer tax planning purposes. However, as time passes, the terms of that trust may no longer suit the needs of your client or the trust beneficiaries—fortunately, their irrevocable trust can likely be modified and brought up-to-date to suit their current requirements.

    This one-hour seminar will provided attendees with the necessary tools to determine when an irrevocable trust can and should be modified, and also about various methods to modify the trust.

    Partners Alysse McLoughlin and Timothy S. Shuman will be speaking at a complimentary two-hour webinar hosted by the Tax Executives Institute (TEI), where they will discuss practical tax reform implementation issues, risks, and strategies relevant to in-house tax professionals as they formulate their companies’ federal and state tax return positions.

    With the enactment of US tax reform legislation last year, the first half of 2018 has easily been one of the busiest and most challenging periods on record for many in-house tax professionals—both domestically and abroad. Over the past six months, the US Department of the Treasury and Internal Revenue Service have issued guidance in a number of areas that will directly impact many US and foreign companies’ 2017 income tax returns. With so much change and uncertainty afoot, and so little time, it is critical for in-house tax professionals to understand which changes might affect their 2017 tax positions, and what guidance is available to help them navigate those changes. This timely webinar will focus on practical tax reform implementation issues, risks, and strategies relevant to in-house tax professionals as they formulate their companies’ federal and state tax return positions, including those concerning:

    • the repeal of section 958(b)(4);
    • the application and interstices of section 965;
    • earnings and profits determinations, and information reporting under section 6038;
    • elections under section 965(n) not to apply the net operating loss deduction; and
    • related state and local tax considerations.
