Tony Maida

He represents clients in False Claims Act (FCA) qui tam matters, government audits, civil monetary penalty and exclusion investigations, and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) suspension and revocation actions, along with negotiating corporate integrity agreements and government self-disclosures. He also helps clients evaluate, develop, and implement corporate compliance programs. 

Tony previously served as deputy chief of the Administrative and Civil Remedies Branch of the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG), where he investigated FCA and civil monetary penalty cases, negotiated and monitored corporate integrity agreements, and defended exclusion appeals. He was a principal author of the OIG’s Self-Disclosure Protocol and advised CMS on policy issues, including the Medicare Overpayment Rule and the creation of the Self-Referral Disclosure Protocol. 

Tony’s clients span the healthcare and life sciences industries, including hospitals and health systems, physician practice management companies, pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers, post- and sub-acute providers, pharmacies and pharmacy benefit managers, laboratories, health plans, and investors that support the sector.  

He writes and speaks frequently on healthcare regulatory topics and has lectured on healthcare fraud and abuse at Boston University School of Law and American University Washington College of Law.
