McDermott Will & Schulte has advised Science Corp. on its negotiations with Universitätsklinikum Schleswig-Holstein in Lübeck (UKSH) regarding the first commercial implant of PRIMA, a treatment designed to restore functional central vision to patients with geographic atrophy (GA) caused by age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

In July 2026, PRIMA received a CE-certification under the European Union Medical Device Regulation from DEKRA, authorizing its commercial availability across 30 European countries. PRIMA is the first brain-computer-interface (BCI) device to receive CE certification for form vision restoration (reading letters, numbers, and words).

Science Corp. develops medical devices and research hardware at various stages of regulatory review. Headquartered in Alameda, California, the company runs with secondary offices in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, and Paris, France.

The McDermott team included partners Jana Grieb and Monika Richter, counsel Marcus Fischer and Claus Färber as well as associate Philip Uecker.
