Nearly 20 million private-sector workers and retirees participate in defined benefit pension plans. For two decades, plan funding and risk to the federal Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation have driven policy conversations. Now, some would like to reinvigorate the defined benefit system or otherwise integrate lifetime income into defined contribution plans. In this panel, experts will review the latest funding data and trends, PBGC’s financial position and relationship to the regulated community, and innovative ideas that stakeholders and policymakers are developing to help enhance retirement security.
