Dr. Laura Katharina Woll, LL.M.

Associate

Laura Katharina Woll focuses her practice on intellectual property and dispute resolution, working for German and international clients. As UPC Representative, she specializes in litigating before the Unified Patent Court. She also advises on standard-essential patents (SEPs) and FRAND defenses. Other areas of her practice include drafting and negotiation of business agreements such as IP licensing agreements as well as trade mark law issues and domain disputes.

As part of due diligence projects, she assists clients in the comprehensive review and evaluation of IP portfolios — from analyzing the scope and strength of registered and unregistered IP rights to identifying infringement and invalidity risks, and assessing existing licensing structures and freedom-to-operate issues.

Her clients represent a wide variety of industries such as automotive, pharmaceutical, medical devices, chemicals and engineering.

Before she was admitted to the German bar, Laura already gained practical experience at McDermott as a research assistant in the dispute resolution department.

Previously, Laura inter alia conducted research in international human rights law as a visiting doctoral student at King’s College London for her dissertation in European and international law. During her studies in Saarbrucken with a focus on European law, in France at the Université de Lorraine as well as her legal clerkship in Freiburg, she also gained practical experience in commercial and corporate law and subsequently in the area of inter-institutional relations through her work at the Secretariat General of the EU Commission. Laura also worked as a research associate at the Europa Institut in Saarbrucken.
