Schulte Speaker Series and Latin Affinity Group Guest Carlos Andrés Gómez shares spoken verses and insights

Overview

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and as a part of our Schulte Speaker Series, the Latin Affinity Group was honored to host a perspective-changing performance by the spoken-word poet Carlos Andrés Gómez.

Carlos, a Colombian-American speaker, actor, playwright, educator, and equity and inclusion strategist who describes his work as “raw, real and revealed,” held true to those words at Schulte as he:

  • Celebrated the complexities, range, nuances and paradoxes of Latinidad – “There isn’t one way to be Latiné!”
  • Considered the ways our social identities intersect within and outside of Latinidad, forming an inclusive prism through which to view all the identities we all hold
  • Eloquently confirmed that we all belong and are significant!
  • Recited “Mi Gente,” “Mi Abuelita” and “Where are you really from?” to resounding applause

We encourage you to read Carlos’s books, “Fractures, “Hijito and “Man Up | Reimagining Modern Manhood.”
