Matthew Buckwell advises clients on digital and communications regulatory matters, with a particular focus on telecommunications, cybersecurity, data protection and the evolving legal framework governing the use of data. He works with multinational organisations, technology companies and communications providers, providing pragmatic, commercially focused advice on both UK and multi-jurisdictional matters.
Matthew has experience of the entire range of telecommunications regulation, including regulatory classification, licensing and registration requirements, engagement with regulators and ongoing compliance obligations. He also advises on commercial telecommunications projects and infrastructure transactions, coordinating cross-border regulatory advice where required.
His cybersecurity practice includes advising on incident response, breach notification and compliance with cybersecurity legislation, including the UK NIS Regulations and the EU NIS2 Directive. He also advises on product security requirements under the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Act 2022 and the Radio Equipment Directive.
In addition, Matthew advises global businesses on the processing and use of personal and non-personal data. Combining his telecommunications and data protection expertise, he provides specialist advice on ePrivacy, interception and data retention requirements, helping clients navigate complex regulatory obligations while supporting their commercial objectives.
