McDermott represented founders of Minerva Virtual Academy, an award winning online learning programme, on their investment from Phoenix Equity Partners

Overview

Global law firm McDermott Will & Schulte advised the founders of Minerva’s Virtual Academy (MVA) on their investment from Phoenix Equity Partners. MVA is an award-winning, Department for Education accredited British online school for students aged 11 to 18. It blends live teaching with independent study and one-to-one mentoring, offering a flexible and highly supportive alternative to traditional schooling.

MVA offers a structured approach, outstanding teaching, and a real sense of community. By offering flexible learning structures and consistent academic support, students are able to maintain progress regardless of location. This approach is particularly valuable for families where international mobility is common and long-term educational stability is a priority – our educational framework is designed to provide continuity. MVA’s work has evolved in direct response to this reality – supporting families whose lifestyles, learning needs and wellbeing priorities demand flexibility, structure and understanding.

McDermott’s team was led by partners Jason Zemmel and Jamie Burgess, and included associates Kieran Sargent, Nikita Panchal and Tom Johnson (all private equity). The team was supported by partner Alex Jupp and associate Lucy Foulkes (both tax), and trainee solicitors Catherine MacDonald and Louis Gregory.
