The COVID-19 pandemic has caused the dislocation of the world’s financial markets. Historically, the SEC and the DOJ have become very active in the aftermath of severe market dislocations, both to enforce existing law and to make examples out of those who — at least in the government’s eyes — took unfair advantage of the chaos.
