China recently enacted its Personal Information Privacy Law (PIPL), which came into effect November 1, 2021. PIPL has global reach and broadly regulates entities of all industries that process the personal data of Chinese residents. It also imposes significant obligations on companies subject to the law, such as notice and consent requirements, requirements to respond to data subject requests, restrictions on cross-border transfers, data protection impact assessments, robust data security and incident response procedures.

Join McDermott’s Michael Morgan and Wendy Zhang along with Bill Dummett, chief privacy officer and associate general counsel at Genesys as they discuss what PIPL means for your company and how it compares to existing data protection frameworks like the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

The discussion will include:

  • An overview of the People’s Republic of China’s main data privacy and data protection laws
  • An in-depth exploration of PIPL and how it compares to existing data protection frameworks
  • How PIPL could impact your organization’s data collection and processing practices
