SRZ and SAGE Work on a National Bill of Rights for LGBTQ+ Older Adults

Overview

In June 2022, the Biden Administration issued its first-ever Presidential Executive Order (EO) that includes a focus on LGBTQ+ older adults. The EO directed the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to publish a long-term care “Bill of Rights for LGBTQI+ Older Adults” and new guidance on nondiscrimination protections for older people in long-term care settings.

To ensure that the EO’s advancements are ultimately enshrined in a law passed by Congress, SRZ worked with our partner SAGE to research the feasibility and components of a national Long-Term Care Bill of Rights. SAGE has begun sharing our concept with contacts on Capitol Hill and at the White House.
