International law firm McDermott Will & Schulte announced today that Gregg Galardi, a senior restructuring partner, will join the firm in the Transactions Practice Group in New York. Gregg is recognized in the industry for his work on large-scale debtor matters and liability management exercises, including significant experience advising private equity sponsors and portfolio companies navigating distress. With Gregg’s arrival, he and Partner Darren Azman will become co-heads of the Restructuring Practice Group, a leadership structure that will support the next phase of growth.
Gregg’s addition further accelerates the Transactions Group’s trajectory by leveraging the firm’s private equity network to build and expand a sponsor- and portfolio company–focused restructuring practice. Gregg will expand the firm’s ability to serve clients across the full restructuring lifecycle, including debtor-side matters, creditor-side matters, distressed M&A, and liability management transactions (LMTs), an increasingly used tool for companies managing liquidity pressures in an uncertain market.
“Gregg is a nationally respected, debtor-side restructuring lawyer with deep private equity sponsor and portfolio company experience,” said Harris Siskind, global head of McDermott’s Transactions Practice Group. “We believe his addition will help us round out our already-strong creditor capabilities, accelerate growth relating to our existing large-scale debtor representation practice and liability management exercises, and further expand our restructuring platform in the US and Europe.”
“Gregg has a rare combination of technical strength, market credibility, and sponsor fluency. As co-heads, we plan to build on the momentum of our team and continue expanding the breadth of our restructuring work, particularly in complex debtor representations and private equity-driven mandates,” added Darren.
Over his 12 years at McDermott, Darren has been instrumental in elevating the group’s capabilities and market presence.
“McDermott has built a premier restructuring platform and a leading transactions practice, with a strong private equity client base,” said Gregg. “I’m excited to join the team and help capture more sponsor and portfolio company debtor-side matters, expand liability management capabilities, and continue delivering practical solutions for clients navigating challenging capital structures.”
The Restructuring Practice Group is comprised of more than 75 lawyers positioned globally in New York, Dallas, Chicago, Miami, Wilmington, Atlanta, London, Paris, and Düsseldorf. The team’s success has been driven in substantial part by the leadership of Partner Felicia Perlman. Felicia will remain a key part of the practice and client representations.
