ROBERT G. McDERMOTT, ESQ.  - ATTORNEY

Bob is an attorney and Certified Financial Planner (CFP) in private practice, with emphasis on general business and litigation matters, estate tax and financial planning, wills and trusts, and matrimonial litigation.

In addition to his private practice, Bob is an Adjunct Professor of business management and law in the undergraduate program at St. John's University in New York, has been an instructor in Basic and Advanced Will Drafting, Estate Administration and Estate Tax Planning continuing legal education courses for attorneys at St. John's University Law School, and an Adjunct Professor of estate and retirement planning studies for the Certified Financial Planner programs at Pace University and St. John's University. He also lectures frequently to other attorneys for the New York State Bar Association, and has spoken before the American Institute of Banking, the Financial Planning Association of New York, the Association of Supreme Court Justices of the State of New York, the NYC Association of Insurance & Financial Advisors, the National Business Institute, and the Metropolitan College Tax Institute for accountants at St. John's University on estate planning and divorce litigation matters. Bob has authored articles on Long Term Care and Medicaid Planning for local newspapers and financial planning trade journals.

Bob previously worked as an attorney for two law firms in New York, as an employee benefits analyst for the international accounting & consulting firm Coopers & Lybrand, and in various positions in the NBC News Division of the National Broadcasting Company. Bob was appointed to the Executive Committee of the Family Law Section of the New York State Bar Association in 2004. He is a member of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners and the Trusts & Estates and Family Law Sections of the New York State Bar Association, and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. He received his undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from St. John's University in Jamaica, New York in 1984, and his Juris Doctor degree from St. John's University School of Law in Jamaica, New York in 1991. Bob received his Certified Financial Planner certificate from Adelphi University in New York in 1986, and was qualified as a Certified Financial Planner in 1986.

JOHN F. McDERMOTT, ESQ. - OF COUNSEL

John is a real estate, business, and estate planning attorney with more than thirty years experience. He represents individuals, builders, and corporations in residential and commercial real estate transactions and lease negotiations, and business owners in various commercial transactions. He has been quoted in several articles in New York's Newsday newspaper on residential real estate, and is an active lecturer before various community and civic groups. John maintains his own legal practice in Oceanside, New York, and is counsel to the firm for real estate and business matters. In addition to his private law practice, John serves as special Counsel to the New York City Health & Hospital Corporation in specialized medical law litigation and incompetency matters, and has been an Arbitrator for the Suffolk County District Court and the a member of the arbitration panel for the American Arbitration Association.

Before entering private legal practice, John was a Captain and attorney for the Judge Advocate General of the United States Air Force, and was a Bureau Chief & Senior Trial Attorney for the Mental Hygiene Legal Services Division of the NY State Office of Court Administration in Suffolk County. John received his undergraduate degree from Colgate University, Hamilton, New York in 1970, and his Juris Doctor degree from St. John's University Law School, Jamaica, New York in 1973. He is admitted to practice before the New York State Courts, the United States District, Eastern District of New York and the United States Court of Military Appeals.

BROOKE McDERMOTT - PARALEGAL

Brooke is an experienced legal assistant who assists in all phases of the firm's practice, with emphasis on estate accounting/administration matters. Prior to working for the McDermott Law Offices, Brooke was the administrative assistant to the President of a division of Sanctuary Music in New York City, where she handled administrative, paralegal and financial accounting duties for major music artists managed by Sanctuary. Brooke also worked in promotions and marketing for 92.3 K-Rock, a major radio station in New York City owned by Infinity Broadcasting. Brooke attended New York University, and received her Bachelor's Degree in 2004 from the New School University in New York.

LESLIE McDERMOTT  - LEGAL ASSISTANT & OFFICE MANAGER

Leslie is a legal assistant and the firm's office manager. Leslie supervises all billing and bookkeeping matters for the firm. Prior to entering the legal field, Leslie held positions as a claims adjuster for the Prudential Insurance Company, and as an advertising account representative for a major advertising firm in New York City, where she handled client relations for a national clientele in cities throughout the US, including Zales Diamonds, Fortunoff's, May Co. Stores and Bambergers. Leslie received her Bachelor's of Science Degree in Marketing from the New York Institute of Technology in 1983.
